Always follow the WATER SAFETY CODE!!
The Making Waves Project is focused on enhancing water safety awareness, conducting school workshops and school assemblies, public and private seminars as well as swim training session.
The project, just like the CMSA, is funded entirely by the generosity of donors and sponsors.
Did you know that in Antigua and Barbuda...
1 in 3 PEOPLE CANNOT FLOAT
2 in 3 PEOPLE CANNOT SWIM
By this we do not mean inability to swim perfect Butterfly, this refers to adults being unsure how to float or tread water for example; some key water safety skills.
It is estimated that approximately 2,500 persons are in or around the water each day.
There are limited co-ordinated and long term swimming projects on the island that are free or accessible to those most vulnerable.
With the support of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Creative Industries, we will deliver a long term programme providing:
Water Safety Awareness and Talks will be delivered to a pilot group of schools, representing a cross section of the island. These sessions will include environmental and oceanographic topics.
Free Learn to Swim Classes will take place at carefully selected beaches, and is available to Antigua and Barbuda nationals, regardless of age.
Are you a school, private busniness or non-government organisation? Would you or your staff like to learn to swim or receive water safety training?
